 PAG 2012 Aquaculture Genomics Workshop: The Plant and Animal Genome 
(PAG) Aquaculture Workshop will be held in San Diego January 14-15, 2012. 
The theme for this year¡¦s Aquaculture Workshop is: ¡§New Genomics 
Technologies and their Impact on finfish and shellfish functional 
genomics¡¨. Invited speakers will include Dr. Goro Yoshizaki (Tokyo 
University of Marine Science and Technology), Dr. John Postlethwait 
(University of Oregon), Dr. Shane Burgess (University of Arizona). 
Additional speakers for the 1.5 day workshop will be chosen by the 
committee from abstracts submitted directly via e-mail to the Aquaculture 
Workshop Chair, Dr. Sylvie Quiniou (Sylvie.quiniou@ars.usda.gov). In 
order to be selected for an oral presentation, you must meet the abstract 
submission deadline of September 30, 2011.

 Abstract Submission and Review: Abstracts to be considered for oral 
presentations at the PAG Aquaculture Genomics Workshop must be submitted 
by email to Sylvie Quiniou (Sylvie.quiniou@ars.usda.gov) by September 30, 
2011. Please note that all abstracts (for both oral and poster 
presentations) must ALSO be submitted directly to PAG using the PAG 
website http://www.intl-pag.org/ (deadline: November 1, 2011). Abstracts 
being considered for an oral presentation will be reviewed by committee 
after the September 30 2011 internal deadline, and those selected for 
oral presentations will be notified in October 2011. Abstracts will be 
judged on both the scientific quality of the abstract, and interest to 
USDA National Animal Genome Project (National Research Support Project 
NRSP-8) aquaculture species stakeholders.

 Travel Award Applications: The Aquaculture Genomics Group of the 
NRSP-8 is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of 
Travel Bursaries, of up to $1000, to support the attendance of graduate 
students and postdoctoral fellows at PAG to be held January 14-18, 2012. 
All graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who will submit an 
abstract to the Aquaculture workshop are eligible for consideration. 
Applicants should submit all the required items as listed below by 
September 30, 2011, through e-mail to Sylvie Quiniou 
(Sylvie.quiniou@ars.usda.gov): 1) the abstract to be submitted to PAG, 
including the title and authors; 2) a statement of the anticipated costs 
for the applicant to attend the PAG meeting, including information on 
additional resources (if any) that will be available to support their 
attendance; and 3) Travel award applicants MUST also arrange for their 
supervisor to send an e-mail to Sylvie Quiniou confirming their status as 
a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. Award selections will be made 
and awardees will be notified soon after the September 30 deadline. 
Awards will be paid after the meeting as a travel stipend.

 International Symposium on Aquaculture Genetics XI (ISGA XI): The 
International Symposium on Aquaculture Genetics XI (ISGA XI) will be held 
June 24-30, 2012 at the Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center, 
Auburn University, Alabama, USA. Sessions are planned in the following 
areas: 1) Quantitative Genetics and Selective Breeding; 2) Biotechnology 
(Polyploidy, Sex Reversal and Breeding, Genetic Stem Cell Applications; 
3) Transgenics; 4) Ethics, Food Safety and Environmental Risk of Genetic 
Enhancement Programs; and 5) Applied Genomics (Marker Assisted Selection 
and Whole Genome Selection). The objectives of the conference are for the 
international community of aquaculture geneticists and genomists 
including both researchers and graduate students 1) to share the latest 
research on aquaculture genetics and applied genomics for genetic 
enhancement of farmed fish, shellfish and crustaceans, 2) to link
the past, present and future of aquaculture genetics, 3) to present the 
current state of the integration of breeding, genetics and genomics for 
genetic enhancement, 4) to provide a forum for aquaculture geneticists 
to learn from leaders in terrestrial animal research on the latest 
developments on integrating breeding, genetics and genomics for improving 
performance and 5) to develop strategies to utilize the genomics data 
from the past 20 years for practical application of the genetic 
enhancement of farmed aquatic animals. Pre- and post-conference tours are 
being planned. The keynote speaker will be Jeremy Taylor, Professor and 
Wurdack Chair in Animal Genomics, Division of Animal Sciences, University 
of Missouri lecturing on Applied Genomics to Accelerate Genetic
